Here's a list of MSNBC's most memorable S.B. halftime shows:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35255906/ns/entertainment-television/
I remember most of them (but not Patti Labelle in '95 or New Kids on the Block in '91), but who the heck are "Up with People"?? Was it a band? It sounds a little like George Costanza's fake charity "The Human Fund: Money for People."
Anyways, "Up with People" apparently performed multiple times in the 70s and 80s. I guess I was a bit young then.
The Who are performing this year, and I hear it's going to be a 12-minute medley of their hits (Baba O'Reilly, Tommy, Who Are You, Pinball Wizard, and Won't Get Fooled Again.) Personally, I'd like to see them perform "Happy Jack." |

Oh, I guess the point of this thread is to discuss halftime shows. Either:
1. What do you think of the Who performing this year? What are your thoughts of the supposed song list? And are there any of their songs you'd really like to hear?
2. What is your favorite or most memorable halftime performance?
3. What are your thoughts of MSNBC's list?
Or,
4. Who the hell are "Up with People?" |

Baba O'Reilly is one of my fave tunes ever so I'm totally looking forward to half time, I may even record it just in case people are being loud at the part since I could give 2 shits about the game, I just want to see halftime & go home!
Of the list I'd say the Prince in 2007 was top on my list. I didn't even participate in the Super Bowl last year but Springsteen...meh. I do remember the NKOTB fiasco though...they performed but it ended up not being televised due to Gulf War updates...talk about pissing off way too many teenage girls! I also loved the JT/Janet performance regardless of the tit they sounded great but the tit was a plus & made me feel very European for a minute!
To answer the Up With People question, they have been around since the 60's & are a non-profit group of students who travel & perform all over the world to promote unity & all that hippie crap :) You can read all about them here.

I think my favorite was the Aerosmith one, boy bands and Britney aside- although seeing them all perform "Walk this Way" was pretty cool. I really don't remember last year's at all. But that may be because I was busy mingling and drinking. I usually don't see much of the half-time shows.
I do remember the Janet Jackson one though. I was at my parent's house that year, watching it in the basement with my cousin. It didn't really seem like that big a deal to me (at least it didn't make me go "WHOA!" or anything), so I was surprised at how much attention it later got. |

They show tits in Canada, and Europe....I just wish the US would get on the bandwagon...have you ever watched Showgirls on VH1? It's hilarious...they have these animated bras that all the topless dancers wear & it looks so cheesy & that movie already is one to make fun of but with cartoon tops it's even worse!

I'd like to see them perform "Teenage Wasteland," but I suppose it'd be wierd for 60 somethings to sing about that, huh? |

You're in luck. The actual name of that song is "Baba O'Reilly," which they're expected to play. |

I saw them, but couldn't hear them over the people talking around me. But I do wish they'd maybe pick a rock band that is younger than my grandparents to perform at halftime next year. I know they're worried about "wardrobe malfunctions" and crap like that, but there are a lot of younger bands that wouldn't show their tits too.
I'm not necessarily a big fan of all these bands, but here are who I'd suggest: Coldplay, Green Day, White Stripes, or how about going country with someone like Dwight Yoakam? |

I think it's sad that The Who have now become "safe" performers. Back in the day, these guys were the bad-ass-motherfuckers of rock. Now they're the go to guys when the NFL doesn't want any unpleasant surprises.

I don't think Coldplay rocks enough to constitute a half time show & going country would not be a good thing, country music isn't appreciated as widespread as rock and roll & a lot of people would be really pissed. It would be different if they had a country performer out there with a rock band but just going country for the half time show would likely lose a lot of viewers to the kitten half time show on Animal Planet.
They need to stick to pop & rock to satisfy the majority of viewers. They could always get one of those rocky country bands though...a crossover type just not Taylor Swift. That girl cannot sing live & I don't think she really has a clue.
I'd like to see Page & Plant out there.

As a huge Who fan, that's one performance that I wish I could un-see. I really would like more of these old bands to just hang it up and let us enjoy watching performaces from their youth- back when they were still young, vibrant and on top of their game.
I am so glad the Beatles will never be able to re-unite. |

Huh, I started this discussion, and I ended up missing the Who's halftime show. I completely forgot to watch it, I got up, got some food, went to the bathroom, dicked around with my dog, and,,,well, before I knew it, the second half had started. Ah well....... |
