Write!

How and what to submit
The Counter Project accepts all sorts of submissions, including news tips, press releases, materials for review, event announcements and— this is huge!— columns and features from local writers. Below are submission guidelines.

What format should you send? The best way to send us your stuff is in the body of the email. Please don't send Word attachments! We don't really want your computer's germs. I mean, would you open a .doc attachment from someone you don't know? Of course not.

Email all submissions to editorial@theCounterProject.com.

Types of submissions
We're looking for features and opinion pieces; commentary on music, movies, tv, books, politics (all levels), ethnic and gender issues, current events, etc.; and also observations about Dearborn and metro Detroit. These things will run on the "Inside." Really interesting and timely pieces may even make it to "The Front Page." Profiles of people, businesses and bands are also very much welcome. Topics can be local, regional or national. Pieces just need to be of interest to our readers. If you find a topic interesting, chances are our readers will too. We think first-person essays are the bomb.

We're also looking for Dearborn restaurant, bar and event profiles to run in "Wine, Dine and Do It." If you know about an event coming up, or a new restaurant opening, or have a favorite bar, let us know about it.

If you're interested in a regular gig with us, we're always looking for bloggers. If you're interested in running a blog, figure out a theme or subject that you could specialize in. For example, a fitness blog; or a blog about campus life; or sports; or television; or video games; or something related to your profession; or food and cooking; or faith and religion; or shopping locally; or music; or whatever else piques your interest. We don't pay, but every one of our bloggers does get occasional freebies. So you'll have that going for you.

Finally, the most basic thing you can do is register an account, and provide commentary on our stories. Also, get involved at the Counter Project Lounge: interact with our bloggers and get active in the message board discussions.

The Counter Project is a collective and fluid beast. We don't want our readers to remain passive, but to play an active role in the direction we go.

Take a deep breath, look at the world around you, and WRITE!
